Apple Updates Portable Wireless Phone Charger Design Ahead of iPhone 13 Launch

Alongside the iPhone 12 and 12 Pro models, Apple introduced a new magnetic wireless battery charger that attaches to the magnetic ring in the back of the devices, providing up to 15W of charging power, which is double the speed of the 7.5W Qi-based magnetic wireless power bank maximum.

Apple is rumoured to launch iPhone 13 in September. Apple is yet to make an official announcement about its next iPhone series but the specifications and the early renders of the upcoming phone are already doing the rounds. The latest reports suggest that the iPhone 13 will come with 25W fast charging. It would be a step up over the current iPhone 12, which supports fast charging at up to 20W.

Apple does not provide a power adapter with the $39 Magnetic Wireless Power Bank, requiring users to supply their own USB-C compatible option. Apple does sell a new 20W power adapter alongside the ‌MagSafe‌ Charger, and as it turns out, that seems to be one of the the only charging options able to provide a full 15W of power to the new magnetic wireless battery charger at this time.

In 2019, Apple sold an 18W USB-C adapter with the iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro Max. However, in 2020, Apple introduced a slightly more powerful adapter with a 20W USB-Type C adapter. If the report by the Chinese website is anything to go by, Apple will upgrade its USB Type-C to provide fast charging experience to the users.

The older 18W power adapter from Apple that was replaced by the 20W version was able to charge the ‌iPhone 12 Pro‌ using the magnetic wireless battery charger at up to 13W, but the 96W Power Adapter and third-party power adapters that provide more than 20W were not able to exceed 10W when used with the magnetic wireless power bank. Below are the results tests:

Apple’s 20W Power Adapter – 15W

Apple’s 18W Power Adapter – 13W

Apple’s 96W MacBook Pro Power Adapter – 10W

Anker 30W PowerPort Atom PD 1 = 7.5W to 10W

Aukey 65W Power Adapter – 8W to 9W

Pixel 4/5 Charger – 7.5W to 9W

Note 20 Ultra Charger – 6W to 7W

Apple this year is rumoured to launch as many as four models under the iPhone 13 series including the iPhone 13, iPhone 13 Pro, iPhone 13 Pro Max and iPhone 13 mini. The phones are said to feature the same boxy design as the iPhone 12 series. There can be minute changes in how the cameras are placed in the camera island especially for the iPhone 13, which is expected to arrive with two camera sensors.

iWALK Wireless Charging Battery Pack – A Quick Magnetic Power Boost

If you were waiting for Apple to finally introduce USB-C to this year’s iPhone models, we have bad news. It appears the Lightning port is here to stay for at least one more year. That said, we expect improvements in magnetic wireless power bank this year, as well as reverse charging for accessories.

In terms of what makes the new magnetic wireless battery charger actually new, we might have to wait and see. It’s possible that stronger magnets will be in play here, something that will be of benefit to things like the magnetic wireless power bank more than the desktop charger, of course. The upcoming iPhone 13 handsets are also rumored to have improved magnets, too.

A wireless charging power bank that takes full advantage of magnetic wireless power bank technology and won’t block the iPhone 12’s camera, so you can keep using your phone while it charges. Perfect for travel or commuting, this slim and pocket juice wireless portable charger provides a quick power boost anywhere you go.

The product, simple dubbed the “Magnetic Wireless Power Bank” , iWALK 6000mAh magnetic wireless battery charger with Finger Holder. retails for $34.99. It can wirelessly recharge an iPhone 12 or 12 Pro on the go through the magnetically attachable MagSafe connector. The accessory looks similar in size to an AirPods case, making it compact enough to fit in a pocket, even while attached to an iPhone.

It’s unclear why the magnetic wireless power bank has been revised, but they suggests it’s most likely to take advantage of the stronger array of magnets the iPhone 13 models are expected to include. That would count as another reason to upgrade from iPhone 12—a better magnetic wireless battery charger experience.

We’re expecting a number of new features and tweaks when the iPhone 13 arrives, including a smaller notch, an always-on display, and a much improved 5G experience thanks to a new modem. Now we just need Apple to decide when to reveal its new lineup of smartphones.
